Back in 1998 Playa Herradura was a quiet secluded beach mostly visited by Costa Rican campers. Nowadays, Playa Herradura is still a dark sand beach with palm trees lined in the shoreline and a great place to enjoy the beach and sea because its less aggresive tides. It is still close to excellent surfing breaks like Jaco for beginners and Playa Hermosa or Playa Escondida for top, competitive surfers.
